Study in Germany
Public universities with no tuition fees
Most public universities in Germany charge no tuition fees, for domestic and international students alike — you pay a semester contribution instead, which also covers local transport. For engineering and the sciences in particular, it is the strongest value in Europe.

Why Germany
No tuition at public universities
Public institutions in most federal states charge no tuition fee. You pay a semester contribution, which is a different order of cost and usually includes a transport pass.
Engineering and research depth
German technical universities have long-standing industry links, and working student roles alongside a degree are normal rather than exceptional.
Time to find work afterwards
Graduates can apply for a residence permit specifically to look for a job related to their qualification.
Courses and intakes
Bachelor's and master's at universities and universities of applied sciences, plus doctoral study.
The winter semester starting in October is the main intake and has the widest choice. A summer semester starts in April, though fewer programmes admit into it.
What you will need
- Passport

This is the same checklist we track for you inside our system, so nothing is remembered twice.
National (D) student visa
- Indian applicants need an APS certificate verifying their academic documents before the visa application — start this early, as it takes time on its own.
- A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is the standard way to prove living costs for your first year.
- Health insurance must be in place before enrolment.
- Many master's programmes are taught in English, but bachelor's degrees are frequently taught in German and will ask for language proof.
Tuition-free study applies to public universities; private institutions charge fees. A small number of states charge non-EU students, so we confirm for your specific university.
Requirements and entitlements are set by each country's government and change from time to time. We confirm the current position for your intake before you apply.
